100vw, 364px\" \/><\/p><p>Eight percent of adults suffer from chronic back pain, 80% will <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/01\/opinion\/back-pain.html\">experience back pain<\/a><\/strong><\/span> at some point in their lives. Back pain is a leading global cause of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC1740930\/\">disability and absenteeism from the workplace<\/a><\/strong><\/span> with broad health and economic consequences. There is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/12926648\/\">no universally effective treatment<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for chronic back pain that helps the majority of patients.<\/p><p>Researchers Angshuman Roy, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/hevra.haifa.ac.il\/mpeleg\">Mor Peleg<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stat.hevra.haifa.ac.il\/index.php\/en\/academic-staff-he\/prof-ori-davidov\">Ori Davidov<\/a><\/strong><\/span> are interested in developing statistical methods that could help find treatments that can improve back pain along multivariate outcomes: level of pain, enjoyment of life, ability to conduct general activities.<\/p><p>Toward this end, they developed a general statistical tool to test for order among multiple multivariate multinomials and applied it to back pain data to show that patients who followed doctors&#8217; recommendations more, performed better.<\/p><p>They developed a statistical tool to test for order among K independent multivariate multinomials. Additionally, they also consider: (i) testing for order under longitudinal sampling; and (ii) ordered analysis in the presence of covariates. The Proposed methodology is then applied to patient reported data for studying back pain.<\/p><p>As expected, they found that patients who followed treatments recommended by physiotherapists performed better than those who did not adhere to treatment.
