Data Scientist part-time (= 50%) position
The Data Science Research Center at the University of Haifa (DSRC) is recruiting a data scientist (PhD degree) for a part-time position.
DSRC promotes high-impact multidisciplinary research in DS, including psychology/health, ecology/environment, oceanography, biology, and biomedicine – with potentially significant contributions and benefits to human society and the environment.
Researchers (faculty and graduate students) from different disciplines who wish to start using data science methods in their research need support and empowerment. In addition, as a source of recruiting budget for the center, advising small companies from the public sector and industry on data science projects is also included in this role.
Role:
- Leading and managing the DSRC consulting unit.
- Advising researchers and research students on data science and promoting activities to engage researchers in collaborative research in data science.
- Supporting and guiding researchers and research students (emails and meetings) during their research work with data analysis, machine learning, and data science in different and diverse disciplines, in addition, to helping in writing research proposals, grants, and papers.
- Teaching researchers and research students advanced workshops in data science.
- Developing data science online tutorials and workshops to advance data science knowledge across the university.
- Supporting and guiding research teams of competitive research projects, including monitoring and collecting their research products for annual reports.
- Consult/analyze on projects commissioned by companies or researchers outside the university
Requirements:
- PhD in Statistics/CS/EE/Information Systems.
- Experience in data science, machine learning methods, and data analysis.
- Experience in teaching, writing research proposals, and articles.
- Ability to teach and convey concepts in data science to researchers in other disciplines.
- Publications related to data science – advantage.
- Good social and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with multiple teams, understand requirements, and communicate results.
- Strong technical skills, good system and infrastructure understanding.
- Working with different kinds of data – images, videos, text, GIS, and more.
- Security and data anonymization.
- Databases – SQL, MongoDB, or others.
